Help me get through University!

This page is setup so that you may donate your hard earned cash to me and help me get through university. I am about to embark on university life and realise I don't have enough money to make it through. Currently the main costs are:

  • Tuition fees -> £3000
  • Hall of Residence -> £2500

I am able to get a £3000 student loan from the nice student loans people. This means I still have debt and have to pay it back, but will pay for my accommodation. The tuition fees I can also pay back later.

That leaves me with £500 to pay for food, clothing, books, toiletries, washing etc. for a whole year. Clearly you can see why I need to try and work as hard as I can now to get the money I need to make it through uni, bearing in mind I'm going to be there for five years!

This is what Loughborough Uni estimates as cost of living for 1 year:
I got these figures from the guide "Tuition Fees, Bursaries and Scholorships" by Loughborough University

Item Cost
Hall Fees £2500
Food £1220
Clothing £220
Toiletries £150
Household and Laundry £160
Course Costs £300
Leisure £760
Travel £280
Telephone £250
Insurance £50
Other £100
Total £5890

£5890 - £3000 = £2890

So I'm looking to raise an extra £2890 a year!

A bit about me, the uni and my course:

I've filled in my UCAS forms, personal statement, sent it off, been to my interviews / open days and received my offers. These stand at:

University Course Offer
University of Bath H203 Civil and Architectural Engineering Sandwich Course AAB including A in Maths
University of Bristol H200 Civil Engineering AAB including Maths and Physics
Loughborough University H202 Civil Engineering Sandwich Course 300 UCAS points including B in Maths
The University of Manchester H207 Civil Engineering with a Year in Industry AAB including Maths and Physics
The University of Nottingham H200 Civil Engineering ABB or AAC including Maths and Physics
University of Southampton H202 Civil Engineering Sandwich Course 370 UCAS points including C in Maths

Translation notes for above:

  • A sandwich course, is a a normal course, with the middle year spent in industry
  • I am applying for master course in each case (MEng)
  • UCAS points is a complex way of mixing up your grades. 120 = A, 100 = B, 80 = C, 60 = Detc.
  • The grades above have to be met within 3 A-levels e.g. for Loughborough I can't get 5 D grades to make 300 UCAS points, it has to be within three subjects....apart from Southampton where the points are within 3 A-levels and half an A-level to make things more confusing!!
  • General Studies A-levels don't count towards my grade
I am studying the following subjects at A-level:
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Design and Technology - Resistant Materials
  • Economics
  • General Studies
I have decided to go to Loughborough University because they fare well in league tables, in fact it's the highest university out of all of the ones I chose! I was also very impressed with their attitude, facilities and how nice people were.

So this page is to ask you to please donate to help me get through university. You can take a look around my website and see what I get up to. I intend to join the Loughborough Students Cycling Club, and the Loughborough Students Mountaineering Club.

I can assure you that I very much appreciate any donations whatever the size.

If you want your name and the amount, or just your name, or no name on this page to show that you have donated, include your details in the donation. It's very easy to donate, you only need a paypal account or credit/debit card
