My Injury

Ok, obviously lots happens at Uni, that's a given.

I'll start by saying a couple of weeks ago I had a go on a rollapaluza thing, and got a time of 23.29 seconds...which if you look at http://www.rollapaluza.com/ isn't too bad a time, but at Lough Uni I wasn't in the top 5!

Anyway, on Weds (24th of October) I was riding with the fast MTB group...and er came off my bike. I went over a log, but misjudged it and so fell over sideways (I had almost corrected my slip, but the bike I think got tangled in the bush I had accidenly landed in rather than the trail) so I fell over the other way. The bike landed on me and therefore hurt my foot!

I rode on for about 1/2 a mile because the pain became less, but then when we stopped to regroup, I found out I couldn't walk. Therefore I decided that despite wanting to do the rest of the ride, I should head back to my flat. Managed to ride one footed most of the way (I now thank having 27 gears) and overtake some cyclists
I managed to carry my bike up the stairs somehow one footed, and er put ice on my foot, had a shower and stuff.
I then went to try and collect my post (only 150 metres away) but couldn't walk, so I had to get my campus bike to pedal over (as I could use one foot). Then I went out to the Union as it was our department social and Hey Ewe...had to cycle there, and hobble everywhere, and stayed from about 7:15 to 12:30....

Thursday was painful in the morning, and I took 20 minutes to get to my lecture rather than 5, despite still being able to half cycle there. Afterwards I then went to the medical centre at Uni, who advised I should go to the NHS drop in centre in town. So I cycled there, waited a while, ate some chips, they called me in, decided it needed X-raying. The X-rays showed me that I had fractured my foot (metatarsal), not just bruised it. But because it's not too bad, it's in a bandage support and I have to take it easy. They reckon 3 weeks for it to be fully mended.
On the minus side, that means I couldn't night ride on the 25th, and no BUSA hillclimb today, and I suspect no circuit training for a few weeks and the weds ride I'm going to go on the slow ride Also reckon I'll miss the Gorrick race too

However my wishes go out to those involved with the big accident on the slow ride where one of the riders had to be taken away by air ambulance on the same day as my accident.

Ok ages since I've posted.

Over the summer I was working at Faber Maunsell in Witham, and they are now sponsoring me to do my degree

During that time I've been go karting with them, and also I cycled the South Downs Way in a weekend see here.

I've also started Loughborough University, and living in the scum accomodation (Falk-Egg); but it's a reasonable amount of fun, some pictures n stuff should appear on facebook at some point...

Website wise, the domain thingy works so I'm now properly zippy-online as opposed to redirecting.

Oh, and Ive joined the cycle club at Lough, and they seem like good fellas even if a few of them are quite fast

Probably not a very interesting post, but I guess it kinda keeps you updated. A lot has happened in a short space of time!

Oh and the next set of pages to be developed at some point in the future are my bike pages: www.zippy-online.co.uk/bike

Exams are over

Now that the exams are over, it is once again time to resume with normal life! I say normal, I now have no more CRGS ever and this Monday I start work

Anyway, the exams were a bit frantic, and I really hope that I got my B in maths...I worked damn hard for it I should also get an A in tech, and hopefully an A in economics. Either way they are over now, and I should hopefully get the grades to get into uni.

So this last week, I have had off exams. It's been quite busy as I have had to re-organise everything. Have manages to make some vinyl stickers with the website address in various colours, and will be fixing them to various bikes n stuff later

I am building with the help of a friend a computer for my brother, on a budget and it comes out quite a nice spec.

Have built my uni bike....even if it isn't 100% ready, it's most of the way there. I even made a cool timelapse video of it here and you can see the project on my website page here. I am quite pleased with the video result

Has been busy busy, and will remain busy busy, but pleased that the exams are over. I wanna go to Loughborough Uni now

Live Webcam

Er, well A while since I did my last post. Since then, I am now practically fully running on my new computer, and transferred most stuff across, and set up the new computer to work on the whole. Shall be tweaking it once the exams are over

I have no officially left the sixth form bit of the grammar, and I didn't go to the ball for various reasons, and still think overall I probably made the right choice as I was likely to be £50 out of pocket, although it did look like the dinner and ball was quite good, maybe I should have gone. Anyway, that's in the past, I have to look towards the future.

Exams are close, and I know a ridiculously small amount, and need to pass my exams! I'm only confident about one of the exams, and even then I still have to do preperation.

Then during the summer I have a summer placement with Faber Maunsell, and will be cycle commuting there 26miles there and back. I also have a 2 week break inbetween to go to France with family, this time with camcorder and camera to get some good media footage. Hopefully be able to bring laptop, and webcam to get some good recording. Oh and laptop in car will mean good old autoroute can kinda help with the route when we lose the real map

Then University I have applied for my accom now, and hoping to get a nice place. Everyone at Loughborough already I've spoken to seems nice and they're enjoying it.

Oh yes, now I have a spare computer in effect (old laptop), it's just about powerful enough to use a webcam (only just, it's not powerful enough to use webcam and messenger!), but it can broadcast a live image from the webcam every few seconds or so. SO I have set-it up currently to look at my street, but I may move the location, or get rid of it completely. There's a link on the homepage, and to get there easily go to: www.zippy-online.co.uk/webcam...and it'll redirect to the page showing it. I might move it and stuff so you can see maybe me, or a bike or something. Then again, the laptop might blow up, so that won't be quite so goof

Over and out

p.s. AAAGGHH exams

New Computer Ordered

New Computer ordered today. For the geeks the spec is:
Athlon 64 X2 5000+
2048MB RAM
ATI X1300 Pro Graphics
16xDVD+/-RW drive and DVD-ROM drive
20" flat panel monitor, DVI Input, 1680x1050 pixels

..tis a dell dimension thingy.

Anyway, it will enable me to make videos and do graphics and stuff for my website, without it taking ages and ages!

Also worried about exams...and despite having a bank holiday weekend, I did less work than a normal weekend

Been ordering bits for my new bike, see my bikey blog thingy. Also have started work on my page about my bikes, and forthcoming events...haven't got far, but i'ts online with a link on my front page if you look hard enough.

Oh yeh, and I have a better digital video camera, still cheap, but I'll be able to get better videos done now. Gonna start testing it out in the car (no my driving is not even slightly like my cycling)....and those videos I probably won't even keep myself.

Ermm not a lot else has happened, my climbing is improving I think, although James with one leg (one is broken) managed to do a route that I can't do with two legs and arms

AAGGHH....exams, well first one is in 8 days time...to say I'm worried is a bit of understatement, and I'm worried about all the others too...except tech, where I would have to be exceedingly thick to fail.

Oh yeh, whole year photo happened today, will probably buy that

Till the next time...laters

Oh yeh, Forgot to say I am heading the campaign to get Colchester on the Monopoly Map. I have a huge facebook group, and we're er currently on the board. See www.monopoly.co.uk Colchester is a wildcard...so vote Colchester on the wildcard form

Oh look, I haven't blogged for over a month

SO I'll trya and make a quick list of what's happened:

- Ordered new computer for rents on my card....credit card nearly maxxed out now.
- Got a 4th bike...to modify to make Uni/track fixed gear bike thingy.
- Outdrove a bmw 330d (far faster and better handling than my volvo)...he almost came off the road trying to get away from me
- Exams are less than a month away
- Card Reader for my camera isn't working...or rather this particular card has broken or something..so getting picture off camera is a pain.
- Finished tech project...picture in gallery here, and will put better picture of it with birds feeding off it later
- Will be getting new computer when I have enough credit on my card
- I climbed the overhang wall at the essex uni climbing wall...and fell off the chimney twice even tho I've climbed the chimney before
- My room is tidy
- Bought an alplkit pipedream 400 sleeping bag for £100....anything else that is similar spec is at least £250, so I'm pleased.
- Bought lots of bicycle clothes and stuff

And er, yeh I probably have done some other stuff too. Went to gandalf's 18 do at playhouse, managed to get a total of 2 hours out, including meal and drinks for about £10...not too bad
Oh, form photo's and society photo's which were taken at school have been printed now...need to pick up the picture for the newly formed cycling society (pictures with 3 of us and 2 bikes, as the society formed simply for the photo's!!)
Oh and Phil, Harry and I will be riding the London Bikeathon, I need to get my bike prepped, camera's and digital dictaphone wired up, GPS attached and stuff, whilst also working at Faber Maunsell over the summer....oh yeh I have a summer placement working with Faber Maunsell

So actually yeh I've been busy.

Intend to get some bike bits on my website done before the summer is over, and as I'll be getting a new computer, I can do some video editing too

Over and out...I need to do the hwk I neglected to do over the weekend

Mixed Week!

SO far I've had a mixed week

Monday was good as I could get up late coz of the hols, and virtually finished my tech project...which actually looks like a space rocket

Tuesday...errm spent lazing around and sorting stuff...was ok

Wednesday...well this is when it got bad....I had ordered a load of stuff including a new sound card, DVD-rewriter and a few other bits and bobs to modernise my rents computers. So whilst fitting them all...bear in mind the dvd rewriter was to backup the computer which hasn't been backed up for ages. Well I kinda broke the hard drive of the computer with all their data on it (to be fair the hard drive was on it's way out). Anyway...I had fitted the other stuff well..just the computer is kinda broke.

Therefore I have spent the past 2 days fixing the bastard, including using my spare hard drive which I used for backup, going to friends with hard drive to backup that onto DVD's...coz my laptop isn't man enough for a dvd drive...and it's all gone tits up.
Well actually going to my friends (Danny's) meant a nice rideout, and we played some project gotham racing too...and he nicely gave me some DVD's for the backup job.

Anywhooo..I also have been reformatting and reinstalling all the software on my little brothers laptop because he got tonnes of spyware and virus'...that I had to reformat it. All coz he doesn't know how to use a computer. I've set-it-up differently, so it should take longer for him to screw up the computer now

At least the computers are all being sorted out now...brothers laptop been done...rents computer being done...my dad's lost a lot of his stuff, but my mum cleverly backed her stuff up on her USB stick, so is not too far behind

And I should be doing my tech coursework write-up tomorrow..which is a lot of work and I have 276 photo's of how I made it!!

...News just in...my Dad's found his car has a flat tyre in the carpark...at least it's only flat at the bottom

Over and out...Zipster

Outsider Festival

I won't bore you with what I've done so far...other than tech project is coming along and I got rope lash on my eye from when I fell off a climbing wall

Right the outsider festival...outsiderfestival.co.uk

Anyone want to come with me to it? It has stuff like -Climbing
-Rafting
-"Fire by friction"
-Loch canoeing
-Mountain bike skills course
-Gorge walk
-and other stuff.
There is also music in the evenings..although nothing too large (KT Tunstall!!) There is also a MTB-Marathon I want to do, so I would like to bring my Mountain Bike.

It's on the 22nd June - 24th June (Fri-Sat)...my last exam is on the 21st June!! It's near Aviemore in Scotland, although I worked out we can get transport there for around £40-£50 return...altho I want to bring my bike...so we could get megabus there and back for less than £30!!
If we can get 3 ppl in a car, fuel would work out about £40 per person return, and this is far more flexible...just need some-one with a car. (I don't mind doing some driving)

Cost for the event is £50 for Fri Evening + Sat + Sun days...£65 after the 31st March, and £10 for camping. Not a bad price IMHO for a 3 night festival...I mean look at the cost of Reading

So does anyone wanna come with me...or am I going on my lonesome?

This isn't like the last hike I wanted to do last summer where most ppl pulled out...this is already organised...and I'm asking a lot further in advance

If you're interested contact me via anyway you want (facebook, website, phone, in person, carrier pigeon, telegram, semaphore, sign language, e-mail, myspace etc. etc.)

Ta Muchely...Zippy

Oh and according to my results acceleration due to gravity is 11.4 m/s/s which is a tad out

Oh, and have I mentioned the sun is out
